750 years of Amsterdam
On 27 October 2025, Amsterdam will turn 750 years old. The city’s birthday will be celebrated throughout the whole year. There are plenty of fun activities for young and old alike, including festivals, street parties, concerts, exhibitions, and much more.
The year of celebrations began on 27 October 2024 with a grand opening show at the Ziggo Dome. You can find the full programme on the I Amsterdam website. In this blog, we are happy to share our five favourite events — perfect to combine with a stay at Inntel Hotels.
1. Walking route in Oosterdok
Take a lovely walk through Oosterdok, a vibrant neighbourhood in Amsterdam. With an audio guide on your phone, you’ll discover more about the past, present, and future in 90 minutes. The walk is free and available until 30 December 2025.
2. SAIL Amsterdam
From 20 to 24 August, SAIL takes place in Amsterdam. This is a large boat show. Beautiful ships from all over the world sail into the IJ Harbour. You can watch it for free.
3. Amsterdam Marathon
On Sunday 19 October, the Amsterdam Marathon takes place. The start is at the Olympic Stadium. There are four routes: a full marathon, a half marathon, a 7.5-kilometre route, and a kids’ run. Entry is now closed, but you can come and watch to cheer on the runners.
4. Exhibition ‘Amsterdam Eet’
In this exhibition, you will learn all about Amsterdam’s food culture — from simple dishes of the past to the flavoursome meals of today. Be sure to book your ticket in advance and prepare to be surprised. The exhibition runs until 8 September.
5. The Roof of the City
Would you like to see Amsterdam from above? Then visit the viewing platform at the Nieuwe Kerk. You’ll climb a staircase and scaffolding to reach the platform. From there, you can see Central Station, the Royal Palace, and the A’DAM Tower. Tickets must be purchased in advance for this activity.
