The bicycle
The Netherlands is truly a cycling nation!
Travelling by bike is an easy and convenient way to get around, especially for short distances in the city.
Rent an OV-fiets (public transport bike) at a train station.
You can link and pay for your bike through OVpay in the NS app.
A small daily fee applies for using the bike.
After your ride, return the bike to the same station.
Useful tips
Encountering an escalator at the station? The rule is: stand on the right, walk on the left. Make space for passengers in a hurry. We also recommend allowing extra time for important appointments by taking an earlier journey than planned, as public transport can occasionally experience delays or disruptions.
Rush hour in the morning and late afternoon can be very busy. There are fewer seats available, so we suggest avoiding peak times if possible.
Finally, it’s fine to bring luggage on public transport, but try to minimise inconvenience to other passengers. Keep your backpack on your lap or use the luggage racks on trains and buses.
